Slowly but unsurely

Published by Joe under Home & Garden

I couldn’t quite get rid of the pinky colorcast. This was shot just before sunset. The color of the siding is an off-white. These guys have been siding the house for at least three weeks now. I don’t think it would take me three weeks to finish siding the house.

This was shot standing in the great room. The kitchen/eating area is to the left. That bow shaped drywall masterpiece is an art niche. The original plan called for a pony wall up the stairway but we would have none of that. Stair caps and railing for us and it only cost as much as a used Buick.

Dave says…
Happily, I can reach through the internet, connect Joe’s camera, and download the photos Joe hasn’t share with us. I give you: the first artwork to grace the art niche.

I have to agree with Joe. This is the slowest-moving construction crew ever. I mean, even worse than the Bob Tomsich Crew of Not Lovable Misfits who put our house together. Maybe we’re being overly judgemental, though. Perhaps this crew takes so much pride in their work, is so methodical, so thorough, that it takes a month to side a house. The framing crew took what…five weeks? They don’t have Amish framing crews up in BC (we jealously horde those guys here in Ohio), so they have to do with the less efficient “Yankee” crews.

p.s. What the hell is a “pony wall?”

Joe speaks to the unedumacated…
Um, a half wall.

The Unedumacated replies…
Ah, okay. Good call. A…uh..”pony wall” would’ve looked cheap.

Just an Ordinary Average Guy

Published by Joe under Random Thoughts

You know, I never thought I could learn to appreciate our government controlled liquor distribution here in B.C. What that means, if you’re not familiar, is we can’t buy booze from anywhere but a B.C. Liquor Store. That is a government owned, operated, and taxed liquor store. We have “Cold Beer and Wine” stores, which have recently been given the green light to sell hard liquor, but they have to buy from the B.C. Liquor Distribution so it’s always more money to buy there because they still have to mark it up. They have the better hours and they’re privately owned and operated though. Anyway my point is this: the government run liquor stores don’t cheap out on anything. They always have very nice and clean stores. The staff is somewhat friendly and knoweldgeable (and well paid). But most importantly they have the strongest, thickest plastic bags to cart your spirits home in. I can not stress the importance of this when I have to pick up a sack full of frozen dog shit from the yard.

Dave says…
Lord, how I love a long story to reach an obtuse Joe Walsh reference.

Sorry for all the picture posts. I can’t think of anything to write and I’m obsessed with photography right now. This is the view I have to endure each day crossing the Pitt River bridge on my way to and from work.

WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE OR PERHAPS HAVE SOGGY FEET

Published by Dave under Minutiae

We were hearing rumors today about some monster storm bearing down on us. TWO FEET OF SNOW WILL FALL ON LAKE COUNTY. That kind of thing.

I mean yeah, it’s fucking cold out. Perhaps I’ve mentioned that I hate winter. The worst is this 16 degree crap with high humidity. But 2″ doesn’t equal 2′.

Winter in Pitt Meadows

I took this photo a couple of weeks ago while visiting our new house. This field is right beside our development. We should have a partial view of that mountain range out the back of our house.
