Exercising a Right

Published by Dave at 9:01 am under Minutiae

“Texas Republicans have worked overtime to make it harder for key Democratic voting groups to vote and be represented fairly. The redistricting games they’ve played are infamous. And for the Prairie View A&M University precincts, they put the early-polling place more than seven miles from the school.

So what did the students in this video do? They shut down the highway as they marched seven miles to cast their votes on the first day of early voting.”

Okay, there’s more to the story than that. Both sides of the aisle mess around with gerrymandering; the Dems are no more saints than the Republicans. The problem at PVU had more to do with the local county officials believing the students should be voting in their home counties rather than at school. Texas law says otherwise, but why should they let that stop them from making it difficult for those students to vote at an early-polling place?

That’s awesome. Too bad there wasn’t a bunch of politicians behind them trying to get somewhere.

Glad it was a nice day. Lot of empty classrooms at PVU that day. Good Lord–let them vote at school. No one will ever complain about making it too easy to vote. Well, someone will.

I was thinking maybe they were mad because one of the 348 Democratic debates pre-empted Medium.

    This week on CSI:Texas –

“Looks like someone tried to make it to their polling place on foot.”

“Yep. And someone ran him down with an F250.”

    “Just another day in Texas.”

    YYEEEEEAAAAHH!!

I thought if I turned the volume up all the way I could hear “The stars at night, are big and bright…..”
“….CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP — deep in the heart of Texas!!”

Next time — on CSI: PVU…..
“Those are some big goddamn bullet holes, Walker.”
“Yes they are, deputy. Someone wanted his F250 bad.”
Yep–looks like at least one person didn’t want to walk to town.”

    YEAHHHH!!!!
