We have friends that rescued a dog from a shelter a few years ago that was skittish from abuse by some dumbass guy. It's obvious it was a man that abused her, as she is much more hesitant around men. She has grown accustomed to me since I go over to brew beer occasionally and I give her plenty of luvin'. I stopped by the other day in uniform and turnout coat and she acted like she didn't know me again. Dixie reminds me of her(Maggie) by the stories. She wants to be friends, but it's so difficult for these poor abused creatures to approach new people. How these ignorant dolts can do those kind of things to dogs is beyond me.

Man Jack, you must be somthin' special.
Last night we (the kids and I ) went to meet Dixie. We were there for about 20 minutes. It took her about 10-15 of those minutes to warm up to me. After several *sniff *...run back to Dave *sniff* run back to Dave, she finally decided I was o.k. And sat by me and let me pet her. It took longer for her to warm up to the kids. After about the 19th minute there she finally went by them, but only to see Julie who was between the kids. She let them pet her for a second or two and then backed away.

Oh, but she did lick Bella's face...which probably made her day.....Bella's day, not Dixies.

Dixie is a sweetie. I feel so bad for her. Seeing her in person and how she acts, it's so obvious that someone abused the poor thing. She's so afraid.

oooh and she's so sooooft!

If you substitute Jackie's name for Dixie in that 4th paragraph, I think that's how they got together.

Hey, maybe now we can get Julie to sing "Dixie Chicken" instead of "choke your chicken" eh?
