Tickets Please

Published by Joe at 12:06 pm under Minutiae

A while back I was rooting through some moving boxes of shit we still haven’t unpacked and I came across some old photo albums. One in particular is a collection of photos and ephemera from high school into my early 20s. I’m not brave enough to post any photos just yet but I thought it was fun to see some of the concerts and performances I went to as I’ve saved some of the ticket stubs inside the album. It’s not a complete list but here it is in roughly chronological order (look at the prices!):

Motley Crue with guests Autograph, Pacific Coliseum, Nov 12 1985, $19

Van Halen, BC Place Stadium, Oct 23 1986, $25

AC/DC, Tacoma Dome, Aug 19 1986, $16

David Lee Roth with guests Cinderella, Pacific Coliseum, Dec 7 1986, $19

Bon Jovi, BC Place Stadium, Jul 2 1987, $22

Motley Crue with guests Whitesnake, Pacific Coliseum, Oct 16 1987, $21

Alice Cooper, Pacific Coliseum, Dec 28 1987, $18

Monsters of Rock (Van Halen, Scorpions, Dokken, Metallica, and supposedly Kingdom Come as the opening act but I swear it was Queensryche), Seattle Kingdome, Jul 27 1988, $38

Aerosmith with guest Dokken, Pacific Coliseum, Jan 20 1988, $21

Kim Mitchell with guest Alannah Myles, The Orpheum, Oct 15 1989, $24

Poison with guests Tesla, Pacific Coliseum, Apr 23 1989, $27

Bon Jovi with guests Skid Row, BC Place Stadium, May 11 1989, $27

Sam Kinison, Paramount Theatre, Seattle, Jun 9 1989, $19

Motley Crue, Pacific Coliseum, Jun 9 1990, $27

Paula Abdul with guests Color Me Bad, Pacific Coliseum, Nov 18 1991, $33 (WTF ??!!?)Crue sigs

The scan above is a photocopy of a torn cigarette pack (a friend took the original but I bet he lost it) bearing the signatures of Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee of Motley Crue. We ran into them in downtown Vancouver the day after one of the concerts.

Funny — a somewhat follically challenged man such as yourself was so into the big hair music. You had me right up to that last one; I guess the gayapalooza tour didn’t make it to the States. $33 for that one, and $16 for AC/DC?? Wow. Nice to see Paula still finding work.

I saw the Monsters of Rock tour in ‘88 — it was Kingdom Come…….GET IT ON!!!!!
And the Pacific Coliseum thanks you for keeping them afloat in the late 80’s.

I know Kingdom Come was part of the tour and they may have played in Seattle. For sure though, Queensryche was there. I remember because they’re a Seattle band and they tried to make a big deal out of the fact. The big deal pretty much crashed and burned as soon as they played.

oh to pay $19 for a concert again……maybe I would actually go to a concert if they were that cheap.

LOL you’d laugh at the list of concerts I’ve gone to. Don’t blink you’ll miss it. Ready? N.K.O.T.B, Van Halen,BNL (with alanis morisette who sucks), John Michael Montgomery, Brian Adams. I know aren’t you sad to know me? Quite the mix, eh?

Wow, Paula Abdul. Joe, you disappoint me. Did you find a “I love Paula” t-shirt in that box as well?

Hey now! Real men admit they went to a Paula Abdul concert!

  6. Other Jimon 20 Mar 2008 at 12:43 pm

    No, actually, they don’t.

DId you have a reserved spot at the Pacific Coliseum?

You saw entirely too much Dokken. But then, I saw Journey & Bryan Adams (Adams opened for Journey). And you think Paula Abdul is bad? Julie and I went to freaking Lilith Fair with friends Chris and Sharon.

    The shame, and the horror.

Upside: ridiculously short line for the men’s room.

Downside: hairy-legged Birckenstock wearing women sporting Indigo Girls T-shirts.

Perhaps Dave could regale us with the story of Julie and Sharon’s strategy for not getting hit on. I believe a blanket was involved. And this is for posterity, so please, be honest.

I can not Believe you didn’t all of a sudden “come down with a cold” or perhaps “tuberculosis” or something to get out of the lesbian-fest

Journey with Bryan Adams would have been a great show. Dokken was the the kind of band that made you want to show up late for the concert. I’ve never bought one of their albums and I couldn’t name a song of theirs if I tried. Lilith Fair sounds like some alternate version of Hell.
