Have A Cookie
by Dave on Oct.01, 2008, under Minutiae
Today I’m taking a break from my outrage at our politicians to pass along word of something that warms my heart and appeals to what my wife refers to as my “head-sized sweet tooth.”
One of my sister’s best friends is a great lady named Alison. Alison has beautiful twin daughters with hearts that are apparently larger than my sweet tooth. Her family has been helping out at a homeless shelter called The Bethany House in Cincinnati and recently, the girls hit upon the idea that they could help further.
One of Bethany House’s services is to help homeless and disadvantaged women find affordable housing. Oftentimes these women have very few possessions as they begin their road to self-sufficiency. Amy and Emma love baking cookies with their mom, and thought it’d be great if these struggling families could enjoy the same family bonding experience in their new homes. So they decided that they’d like to find a way to ensure that there would be the fixings for homemade cookies ready for them as they start their journey.
Well here, I’ll let them tell you their plan:
We are 7-year old twin sisters, and we have started a charity (with a little help from our Mom!) to help homeless moms and kids at The Bethany House Shelter in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Shelter does a great job helping them find a new home and we want to give them a present on moving day. We are going to give each family a jar of homemade oatmeal chocolate chip cookie mix, a cookie sheet, a wooden spoon, a spatula, a pot holder, a gift card to the grocery store, and a “Bake Me Home†cloth grocery bag (because we saw a show about how plastic bags are bad for our Earth). We love making homemade cookies with our Mom. We want other kids to spend time with their moms, and enjoy eating cookies in their new home. Our Dad says we will make the world a better place, one cookie at a time!
